How to start again ✨

  • delete apps and social media that lowers your mood
  • wear a new scent, throw away things you don’t need, delete contacts of people who make you feel unworthy, unfollow social media that makes you feel bad in any way
  • make a new playlist that makes you feel confident and happy
  • in a journal, write down why you want to change, the traits of the person you truly want to be, the places you want to go and people that make you feel inspired
  • write down the things that stop you and bad habits you have, and replace those with new mindsets and habits
  • before you sleep, make a detailed, achievable routine for the next day, that includes everything you want to do, including activities that genuinely make you happy
  • try new hobbies, like baking/cooking, playing a musical instrument, making art, learning a new skill, a sport, or a new language. you can easily get free resources online
  • think about the ideal version of yourself. you can be like that, if you try your best and work hard.
  • do not overwork yourself or set overly lofty daily goals and forget to do things like drink water. make your sleep and health your number one priority.
  • spend less time on your phone scrolling through social media. have a method of focusing on other things, like Pomodoro method or using the Forest app.
  • if you can’t concentrate, commit yourself to doing it for 5 minutes. once you get into the flow it’s much easier to concentrate.
  • be patient and kind with yourself. it’s hard to change overnight. you’re the only one who can help change you, so be a friend to yourself.
  • once you start something, promise yourself you will finish it.
  • have new weekly routines, like going to a cafe every Wednesday afternoon or indulging in your favourite tv show every Friday night.
  • do not deny yourself of good things; there needs to be a balance. similarly, do not be too generous and overdo it too much.
  • dedicate a day to clean your room and organize your things if you feel stressed out.
  • it may feel scary to change, as you may feel like it’s not the real you. but you’re still you, just the best version of yourself.
  • have a relaxing morning routine to look forward to, like making a nice breakfast, having a skin care routine, stretches, journalling, or thinking about nothing for a few minutes
  • have a mental image that makes you excited to do something. visualize yourself completing the goal and concentrate on it every morning.
  • however, learn not to rely on motivation because your brain will often turn off motivation, especially when you first begin something. have a routine, a specific time to do something, and do it.
  • notice the places and people that drain your energy, and try to avoid them. find people who make you feel energized and places that calm you.
  • think about an enjoyable part of something. for example, when studying you can look forward to learning new things and when exercising, listening to calming music or using nice stationery. it’s actually more fun than you think.
  • even though it’s hard, don’t compare yourself. you’re on your own path, and it doesn’t matter if people are better than you, because there will always be someone better than everyone. don’t be afraid to suck. so draw badly, write bad poems, run slowly, make embarrassing mistakes and fail everything. you can’t be good at something unless you’re terrible at something first. and doing anything badly is so much better than doing nothing.
  • don’t tell anyone about your new beginning, just start and let the results speak for themselves.
  • you can change and be your ideal self. but it will be hard to do that if you don’t believe in yourself. so make sure you challenge negative thoughts telling you can’t do something. tell yourself firmly that you can do it and then prove your negative thoughts wrong.

Smarter brains run on sparsely connected neurons

neurosciencestuff

The more intelligent a person, the fewer connections there are between the neurons in his cerebral cortex. This is the result of a study conducted by neuroscientists working with Dr Erhan Genç and Christoph Fraenz at Ruhr-Universität Bochum; the study was performed using a specific neuroimaging technique that provides insights into the wiring of the brain on a microstructural level.

Together with colleagues from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, Humboldt University of Berlin and the Lovelace Biomedical and Environmental Research Institute in Albuquerque, the team from the biopsychology research unit in Bochum published their report in the journal Nature Communications on May 15, 2018.

Intelligence is determined by the number of dendrites

The researchers analysed the brains of 259 men and women using neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging. This method enabled them to measure the amount of dendrites in the cerebral cortex, i.e. extensions of nerve cells that are used by the cells to communicate with each other. In addition, all participants completed an IQ test. Subsequently, the researchers associated the gathered data with each other and found out: the more intelligent a person, the fewer dendrites there are in their cerebral cortex.

Using an independent, publicly accessible database, which had been compiled for the Human Connectome Project, the team confirmed these results in a second sample of around 500 individuals.

Previously conflicting results are thus explained

The new findings provide an explanation of conflicting results gathered in intelligence research to date. For one, it had been previously ascertained that intelligent people tend to have larger brains. “The assumption has been that larger brains contain more neurons and, consequently, possess more computational power,” says Erhan Genç. However, other studies had shown that – despite their comparatively high number of neurons – the brains of intelligent people demonstrated less neuronal activity during an IQ test than the brains of less intelligent individuals.

“Intelligent brains possess lean, yet efficient neuronal connections,” concludes Erhan Genç. “Thus, they boast high mental performance at low neuronal activity.”

Human Trafficking.

therighttohumanlife

What is human trafficking? Contemporarily known as modern slavery. Many people would be surprised to know that human trafficking doesn’t only occur in underprivliged countries like Iraq, Afghanistan but in western contemporary societies too such as The UK. Human trafficking has many forms, it can happen to both men and women; men being forced into labour or women and children experiencing sexual exploitation.

According to National statistics, the most outstanding country for trafficked children was the UK, with 225 cases reported. In 2016, The UK experienced 1,278 victims of human trafficking, the most prominent ‘on record’. Why it’s not reported or brought to attention in the news? Is a question I am unable to answer. However, I do know, that children who come from underdeveloped countries like Iraq and Vietnam and are trafficked here, have recently been denied asylum from the UK government and are now seen as ‘criminals’, even though criminality may be forced upon them. They are deported back to countries where they are likely to encounter the same or worse trafficking, many people say due to this rejection, it ceases other victims to come forward.  What people fail to realise, what governments fail to realise, is this is not an option for them, its not a choice but its mandatory upon them, their vulnerability is being used against them.  People are only trapped in this situation because it’s their only means of survival and living, they live only in fear but for them its just living and breathing, not having a life.We are taught about slavery in history and feel sympathy, pity, but little do we know it still exists and it’s occurring amongst us, its not miles away, it’s around us but we aren’t aware.

The women who we ostracise from society, the women who our society shames are mostly victims of trafficking. 11% of people ‘chose’ prostitution, 89% are coerced into living such a life. Prostitution is a gateway to sexual trafficking. Its monstrous to snatch someones childhood, a persons’ freedom, the rights they are eligible to as humans, just like you and I. The rights given to them from birth.

Have everyone seen this picture of the Danish cop playing games with a little Syrian refrugee on her way to Sweden?

newjork

ok? and?

aspiretostudy

This child has suffered in a country filled with terror, managed to escape and then walked and traveled her way from one continent to another. This is a child in the mids of terror and hatred. Her people have been kicked and spit at. She is a child who have not been allowed to be a child. She is a victim of a war she can’t controll. And then she arrives at the other side of the world, and someone finally treats her like a child. Who see her and play with her and give her some comic relief in the mids of the most traumatic experince of her life, in a country where no one speaks her language and it is so much colder than what she has known. In the mids of war and terror we forget that kids are still kids, and this police officer on the other side of the world reminds us that they are indeed children. Don’t come here and “and?” me!

My husband and I are surprising our 6 year old by taking him to Disney for his b-day tomorrow. We’ve been in the car for 4+ hours and he still thinks we are on our way home from school. He keeps saying “looks like we’re almost home!” 😂

Bless his heart.

got-stars-in-your-eyes

Update: we arrived to Disney World, he thinks we took a wrong turn and is very concerned about who is going to feed our cat.
